Police in Rubirizi District are investigating a suspected suicide case involving a 31-year-old businesswoman who allegedly ingested poison following a domestic dispute.
The deceased, identified as Moureen Atuheirwe, a resident of Nkondo B Village, Nyakiyanja Parish in Ryeru Sub-county, reportedly consumed rat poison in the early hours of Monday morning, April 15, 2025.
According to Greater Bushenyi Police spokesperson Marcial Tumusiime, the incident occurred at around 3:00 AM. Atuheirwe was initially rushed to Rubirizi Medical Centre by John Sebowa, 56, but was later referred to Kampala International University (KIU) Teaching Hospital in Ishaka for further treatment, where she was pronounced dead.
Preliminary police investigations indicate that the deceased had a quarrel with a man she had been cohabiting with for three months, reportedly over money. The altercation is believed to have triggered the tragic act.
Tumusiime confirmed that a postmortem examination was conducted at KIU Hospital, Ishaka. Relevant body samples were collected and preserved for further toxicological analysis at the Government Analytical Laboratory.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
