Police in Bushenyi District have initiated an investigation into a case involving a businesswoman who was attacked with acid by unknown assailants.

The incident occurred on September 28, 2024, around 9:00 PM in Nyakabirizi LC1, Nyakabirizi Division, Bushenyi-Ishaka Municipality.

Marcial Tumusiime, the spokesperson for Greater Bushenyi Police, confirmed the incident and identified the victim as Grace Atukunda, a 35-year-old businesswoman residing at the same address.

According to reports, on the evening of September 28, 2024, while the victim was inside her bar in Nyakabirizi Division, unknown individuals poured a chemical suspected to be acid on her, causing severe burns to her face and chest, which resulted in her clothes being torn.

Atukunda raised an alarm for help, attracting the attention of her neighbors, who found her lying on the ground in critical condition. They rushed her to a nearby clinic for first aid.

Freedom Kuhimbisa, a 36-year-old veterinary doctor who reported the case to the police, stated that the victim was subsequently referred to Kampala International Teaching Hospital, where she was admitted to the intensive care unit for treatment.

Tumusiime noted that upon examination, the victim was found to have severe burns on her face and chest, and her clothes were torn due to the application of the suspected acid.
