Police in Mitooma District are investigating the circumstances surrounding the murder of a 39-year-old man who was hacked to death.
The incident occurred on November 16, 2024, at around 5:30 a.m. in Katwe I Village, Kigarama Parish, Bitereko Sub County, Mitooma District.
Marcial Tumusiime, the Greater Bushenyi police spokesperson, confirmed the incident and identified the deceased as Geoffrey Twijukye, a 39-year-old businessman and resident of Katwe I Village, Kigarama Parish, Bitereko Sub County.
According to reports filed at Bitereko Police Station, Twijukye was attacked by unknown assailants as he returned home from his business. The attackers struck when he opened the front door to enter his house.
His wife, Rosette Kyorisiima, who reported the incident to the police, stated that the attackers used a sharp object, suspected to be a panga, inflicting severe injuries to his head and arms. Kyorisiima explained that when Twijukye raised an alarm, the assailants fled, prompting neighbors to rush to the scene and organize transport to take him to Kampala International Teaching Hospital. Unfortunately, Twijukye died on the way.
Tumusiime mentioned that police responded with a sniffer dog, but the trail ended at a point on the main road, suggesting that the suspects may have escaped using a motorcycle or vehicle. He noted that nothing was stolen from the victim, indicating that the attackers were likely only interested in taking his life. The deceased’s body was taken to Kampala International Teaching Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
