Multimillion businessman Mr Apollo Nyegamahe commonly known as Aponye on Thursday evening died in car crash at Kanyakungu weekly market near Itojo Hospital in Ntungamo district.
Mr Nyegamahe’s car rammed into stationary Fuso Lorry at about 21;15 hours and according to eye witnesses, he died on the spot. Three other occupants in the vehicle including the driver of his car a Toyota Landcruiser V8 escaped with minor injuries.
Nyagamahe, who owns a string of businesses including buildings in Kampala and many other Ugandan towns, was traveling from Kampala to attend a vigil at Kyogo Village in Muhanga town council for his friend who died in an accident on Wednesday in Sembabule district. He had his personal assistant one Joshua, his Nephew Ivan and the driver in the vehicle.
His vehicle Reg No UBF 300Z hit the rare of a stationery FUSO lorry Reg No. UAZ 767D loaded with Irish Potato packed on the left hand side of the road coming from Mbarara to Ntungamo. The impact of the crush saw two of the hind tyres of the lorry burst and rim scrambled.
There was just little blood stains at the scene of the accident.
Police rushed to the scene headed by the Ntungamo officer in charge of traffic and road safety Ms Allen Kobusingye secured the scene of the accident and two hours later towed away the wreckage from the scene.
