Police in Bushenyi District are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 54-year-old man who allegedly took his own life for unknown reasons.
The incident occurred on October 30, 2024, around 2:00 p.m. in Kyabumbaire Cell, Ruharo Ward, Central Division, Bushenyi District.
Marcial Tumusiime, the Greater Bushenyi Police spokesperson, confirmed the incident and identified the deceased as Francis Rwabajungu, 54, a farmer and resident of Kyabumbaire Cell, Ruharo Ward, Bushenyi District.
It is reported that on the morning of October 30, 2024, Rwabajungu’s wife, Jetulida Kyobuhwezi, left home for prayers at about 10:00 a.m., leaving her husband and their daughter, who has a disability, at home.
When Kyobuhwezi returned around 7:00 p.m., she could not find her husband initially but noticed the kitchen was locked. Upon unlocking it, she found her husband hanging from a rope, deceased.
Kyobuhwezi alerted neighbors, relatives, and the Local Council (LC1) Chairperson, Elias Byaruhanga, 52, who reported the case to Bushenyi Central Police Station for further investigation.
Tumusiime stated that Rwabajungu’s body was found hanging in the kitchen with clear signs of tongue-biting but no other visible external injuries, aside from the rope mark on his neck.
The body was transported to Kampala International Teaching Hospital for a postmortem examination, and inquiries are ongoing.
