Bugangari local leaders and residents voice concerns over deteriorating poor Kashenyi – Kanyankyede – Njororo road and Burambira – Burembo roads which have hindered economic transformation activities in the area
The Kashenyi – Kanyankyede – Njororo and Burambira – Burembo roads are monitored and accounted for by the Bugangari Subcounty, of which the roads have been a bridge towards the society’s economic transformation, traveling from places to another including trading and commerce. However, of recent, they’re in a deteriorating condition which has hindered the development activities of the affected areas.
Speaking with Boona Radio, the Kanyankyede LC1 Chairperson Mr. Tumusingize Arthur voiced concerns over the two roads which are currently very poor. However, he said that following their deteriorating condition, he has spent a lot of days without seeing any grader trying to clear up the roads to at least allow fair passage of vehicles.
He added that currently the roads are impassable since they developed some deteriorated spots, of which powerful cars with strong engines can at least try to mount, but other ordinary cars will fail immediately and be dumped along the way. The inconsistency to monitor and grade the roads has left them in a very poor state, similarly hindering economic transformation activities, mostly trade and commerce.
The Bugangari LC3 Chairperson Mr. Jaston Byamukama, in response, told Boona Radio that it’s true most roads in the area are in a very deteriorating state, most especially Kashenyi – Nyabiteete – Njororo road, Burambira – Burembo road, and a spot starting from Njororo to Matsya. However, he gave hope, claiming that they are waiting for a new financial budget, which is to raise funds to account for such important routes, which is going to start in June.
He added that due to heavy rains which destroy roads in the area, they realized they must first apply culverts in each road before grading to ensure a longstanding quality state.
He added that as the subcounty, they also have insufficient funds and have no public income funds to work on all deteriorated roads in time. However, the Rukungiri District Local Government has only one grader which is used in distant places, resulting in delay. Meanwhile, he appreciated the Rujumbura Constituency M.P. Gim Muhwezi Katugugu, who lobbied for a grader from the Ministry of Agriculture to work on the Omuruhita – Kanuuka road.
