Boona FM has received widespread praise for successfully reuniting a woman from Lira District with her paternal family in Rukungiri after more than three decades of separation.
On Thursday, 25th September 2025, Mrs. Apili Jacky — who was named Namanya Jackline by her father at birth — appealed to Boona FM for assistance in tracing her long-lost relatives. Born on 27th December 1994 in Irenda Cell, Lira District, Jackline had spent nearly 31 years without reconnecting with her father’s side of the family.
Responding to her appeal, Boona FM amplified her story through its platforms and social media, drawing public attention and prompting relatives to come forward.
On Saturday, 26th September, at 10:46 a.m., Jackline received a call from Mr. Akatwijuka Peter, who recognized her after Boona FM’s publicity. He revealed that her late father, Mr. Mugisha Alex, was his maternal uncle. Peter further explained that while he is currently based in Jinja, their family and clan roots are in Burebane Cell, Katonya Parish, Nyakishenyi Sub-County, Rukungiri District — the same place Jackline’s mother, Amongi Caroline, had always mentioned as her father’s origin.
Mr. Peter confirmed that the late Alex, who had once considered moving to Liberia for a war mission, instead worked in Toro Kingdom before eventually settling in Northern Uganda. Before his death, Alex revealed to his family that he had children in different regions, including two in Northern Uganda and twins in Toro. However, until now, none of them had come forward — except Jackline.
To authenticate the connection, Peter shared family photos with Jackline, highlighting strong resemblances with her late aunt. He also revealed that some of Alex’s property, including a house in Burebane, still stands and will be formally handed over to her, though it requires renovation.
Speaking to Boona FM, Mr. Peter confirmed that his late uncle, Mugisha Alex, was the firstborn in the family. He assured that plans are underway to organize a reunion in Jinja, followed by Jackline’s official homecoming in Burebane, where she will meet the rest of her paternal relatives.
Both Jackline and Peter expressed heartfelt gratitude to Boona FM for serving as a bridge of reconnection. They praised the station for going beyond entertainment to transform lives socially, economically, and politically — not only in Western Uganda but across the country.
