Boona FM under its Boona Easter charity campaign yesterday delivered an assortment of items to the Batwa community of Rubindi in Bufundi sub-county Rubanda district south western Uganda
The items which included clothes were distributed to almost 30 beneficiaries including men, women, and children.
The campaign which started during this year’s lent season has seen almost 450 hundred unprivileged people from the districts of Rukungiri, Rukiga, Mitooma, Ntungamo, and Rubanda benefiting.
Addressing the beneficiaries today at Rubindi church of Uganda, Namanya Kakyene the Boona fm Manager asked them to take care of the clothes and not to sell them, and promised to consider them even in the next season.
The Rubanda district Community Development Officer Kahwezi Emmanuel asked the beneficiaries not to take the items for granted. He asked them to put into use all the items they receive from different donors.
On behalf of the beneficiaries, the Rubindi Batwa community Chairperson Elias Twesigye commended Boona fm for considering them in its programs and asked them to reconsider them in the next phase.
Evicted from their ancestral forest homes three decades ago in a move to conserve wildlife, many of Uganda’s Batwa people struggle for a more dignified way of life.
After their eviction, some Batwa families were given farmland by the government. But as they did not know how to farm, the land was sold off and many were scattered across the region, surviving on charity from neighbors and non-profit organizations.
These, have been pleading with the government to allow them to go back to the bush all in vain
