Boda boda riders have been called upon to prioritize their children’s education and ensure they stay in school as a way of securing a better future for the next generation.
This appeal was made by the former Assistant Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) of Rukungiri District, Mr. Tumwijukye Deo Kirenzi, who officiated as the chief guest at the launch of Nyarushanje Quarters Boda Boda Stage 2 Association. The event took place on Friday, 2nd May 2025, at the Nyarushanje Subcounty Headquarters.
Mr. Kirenzi emphasized the importance of responsible parenting among riders and the need to look at children as future leaders.
Representing Rukungiri District Woman Member of Parliament contestant Hon. Mary Paula Turyahikayo, Mr. Henry Matagari advised members to work hard, spend wisely, and build trust within their communities. He urged them to support Hon. Mary Paula in the upcoming elections for sustainable development in the district.
Nyarushanje Subcounty Chief, Mr. Kamugisha Henry, condemned leaders who attempt to sabotage the formation of organized groups like boda boda associations. He noted that the boda boda sector has been embraced by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and expressed disappointment in some subcounty officials who tried to block the launch.
Rubabo County MP hopeful Hon. Bob Rugonde encouraged riders to engage in coffee farming to boost their income. He highlighted the potential of the boda boda sector to produce influential people, urging riders to educate their children for a brighter future.
Association Chairman Mr. Gumisiriza Hannington revealed that the Nyarushanje Quarters Boda Boda Stage 2 Association was started in November 2024 and has already attracted over 60 members. He said the goal is to eradicate poverty and improve livelihoods among members.
