Police in Bushenyi District have arrested a 30-year-old boda boda rider on allegations of murdering a 19-year-old man.

The incident occurred at an unspecified time of the night in Nyakahandagaze village, Nyarugote parish, Nyabubare sub-county, Bushenyi District.

Marcial Tumusiime, the Greater Bushenyi police spokesperson, confirmed the arrest and identified the suspect as Edmond Turyakyira, a 30-year-old boda boda rider and resident of the same area. The deceased was identified as Godwin Nuwahereza, a 19-year-old casual worker in the same locality.

It is alleged that on November 26, 2024, Nuwahereza stole UGX 300,000 from Tumusiime and fled to Kizinda town. Tumusiime informed Turyakyira and another boda boda rider, Onesimus, about the theft. The two tracked down Nuwahereza in Kizinda town, apprehended him, and reportedly assaulted him severely before transporting him on a motorcycle to Nyakahandagaze village.

According to Andrew Mwijukye, a 20-year-old tea plucker who reported the case to the police, Nuwahereza managed to reach his home but was found dead on November 28, 2024.

The deceased’s body was transported to Kampala International University Teaching Hospital in Ishaka for examination and postmortem. Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
