Rt. Rev. Onesimus Asiimwe, the Bishop of North Kigezi Diocese, has voiced his concern over the increasing corruption in the country, which he believes is hindering its development.

During a sermon at Munyeganyegye C.O.U Parish in Nyakagyeme Archdeaconry, North Kigezi Diocese, Bishop Onesimus expressed his disappointment with government officials involved in corruption and bribery. He criticized them for turning their offices, meant to serve the country, into centers of corruption driven by greed and selfishness.

Bishop Onesimus also lamented that corruption has infiltrated the church, with some church leaders misappropriating funds and bribing higher officials, including archdeacons and bishops, for promotions within the church hierarchy. He warned those participating in such practices to desist, emphasizing that true leadership is granted by God. He urged Christians to place their faith in the unchanging nature of God, who loves us unconditionally.

Pillar Charles Kashemeza expressed gratitude for the Bishop’s visit to their parish and praised Reverend Obed Tumwebaze for his significant contributions to the church. Under Reverend Tumwebaze’s leadership, the church has initiated several developmental projects, including purchasing land for the church and school, constructing a water tank, and completing the diocesan quotas for 2024.

Ven Eldard Kashanje, the archdeacon of Nyakagyeme Archdeaconry, acknowledged the strong cooperation between Reverend Tumwebaze and the parishioners of Munyeganyegye C.O.U, which has facilitated the achievement of many goals. He urged them to survey their church and school lands and obtain land titles to secure their ownership.
