The Bishop of North Kigezi Diocese, Rt. Rev. Onesimus Asiimwe, has urged Christians across Uganda to celebrate Christmas in ways that honor and glorify God.

Speaking today at the diocesan headquarters on Kinyasaano Hill in Rukungiri Municipality, Bishop Asiimwe emphasized the need for believers to avoid activities that undermine the true essence of Christmas.

He highlighted that many people tend to misuse the festive season by indulging in sinful behaviors such as excessive drinking, adultery, and theft. “Christmas is a time to reflect on God’s gift of salvation and celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ in a manner that pleases Him,” the bishop stated.

Bishop Asiimwe also called on Christians to remember those who will not be able to celebrate Christmas with their loved ones, including Col. Dr. Kiiza Besigye, currently held in Luzira Prison. Besigye and his co-accused, Lutale, face charges of unlawful possession of ammunition and firearms.

Addressing the issue of leadership in Uganda, the bishop advised voters to exercise discernment as the country approaches elections. He cautioned against being swayed by unrealistic promises often made by political leaders and urged Ugandans to elect leaders with integrity and the nation’s best interests at heart.

Bishop Asiimwe’s Christmas message resonated with a call for faith-driven actions, moral reflection, and prayers for the nation during this festive season.
