Rt. Rev. Onesmus Asiimwe, Bishop of North Kigezi Diocese, has called for financial transparency in church construction projects. He made these remarks on Tuesday during the groundbreaking ceremony to launch the construction of the new St. James Karuhembe C.O.U Church in Kakinga Archdeaconry, Kebisoni Subcounty, Rukungiri District.

Bishop Asiimwe urged parish priests not to misuse construction funds contributed by Christians, emphasizing that such money must strictly be used for the intended purpose. He encouraged church leaders to always give proper accountability to Christians, stressing that transparency is essential in order to avoid misunderstandings between priests and congregants.

Jackson Byamukama, Head of Development at St. James Karuhembe C.O.U, applauded the Bishop for his presence and for honouring the day. He commended Christians for their commitment to building God’s house, noting that they have given willingly to ensure the work is completed. He further pledged that, with God’s help, the church will be built and that the leadership will consistently provide accountability to the Christians who entrusted them with responsibility.

Rev. Eldard Twikyirize, parish priest of Rukuru Parish and St. James Karuhembe C.O.U, also thanked the Bishop for honouring their invitation. He pledged full commitment to ensuring that the church is built and assured Christians that all funds collected for construction will be properly allocated.

A total of 9,496,900 UGX was collected during the function, including 6,496,900 UGX in cash, while 3 million UGX and 10 bags of cement were received in pledges toward the church construction.
