The Bishop of the Diocese of Kigezi, Rt. Rev. Gaddie Akanjuna, has called on Christians to work together to enhance household incomes and food security.

Speaking during a confirmation service at St. James Nyakagyera Church of Uganda (COU) Parish in Kyanamira Sub-County, Kabale District, Bishop Akanjuna emphasized that a lack of cooperation within families and communities has contributed to declining food production in the region.

During the service, where 50 Christians were confirmed into the Anglican faith, the bishop encouraged families to unite and engage in agriculture as a way to boost food production and improve livelihoods. He stressed that teamwork is essential in overcoming challenges, fostering unity, and ensuring mutual support within communities.

“When families work together, they can significantly increase agricultural yields, leading to better food security and improved livelihoods,” said Bishop Akanjuna. He urged Christians to embrace a spirit of collective responsibility to help tackle the challenges their communities face.

While preaching, Bishop Akanjuna also called on Christians to remain vigilant during the Lenten season, warning them against falling into temptation. He reminded them that Jesus Christ was tempted by Satan during His 40-day fast in the desert and that believers should also be on guard against challenges during this period.

He emphasized that Lent is not just a time for fasting but also an opportunity for self-reflection, spiritual growth, and purification from sinful habits. “Use this period to renew your commitment to God and seek His forgiveness,” the bishop urged the congregation.

Additionally, Bishop Akanjuna expressed deep concern over the exploitation of children for financial gain, particularly through illicit practices like human sacrifice. He strongly condemned such acts, describing them as morally reprehensible and offensive to God.

The bishop urged Christians to resist worldly desires that lead them astray, calling on them to live lives that honor and please God. He highlighted the importance of prioritizing the well-being and spiritual growth of children and encouraged parents to seek guidance from the church and scripture when facing challenges.

The service concluded with prayers for the newly confirmed Christians, marking a significant spiritual milestone in their faith journey.
