South Ankole Diocese Bishop, Rt. Rev. Nathan Ahimbisibwe, has called on Christians to remain steadfast in their faith despite challenges within the church, saying such trials are opportunities for growth and renewal.

Speaking on Friday during his pastoral visit to St. John Ruhanga Church of Uganda, where he confirmed a group of Christians, Bishop Ahimbisibwe encouraged believers not to lose hope because of bad ministers or internal disputes.

“Challenges in church can be equated to dust on a car – they should not discourage us but rather strengthen our faith,” the Bishop said, adding that nothing can bring the church down as every challenge provides a chance to cleanse and correct wrong practices.

He also urged church ministers to maintain integrity and humility, cautioning them against seeking self-righteousness at the expense of service.

During the same service, Diocesan Secretary Rev. Can. Alfred Turyamureba acknowledged existing challenges and encouraged Christians to prioritize reconciliation and deepen their faith and hope in Christ.

The Bishop’s visit follows a recent altercation between the parish priest and the head of laity, which played out before congregants two weeks ago. Bishop Ahimbisibwe pledged to return and meet church leaders to foster reconciliation and chart a way forward.

Church elder Mr. George Bashukwa described the Bishop’s timely visit as a “great symbol of servant leadership” and an important step toward restoring harmony in the church community.
