Bee keepers in Bikurungu town council have been warned against    harvesting honey during the rainy season, and also against spraying their crops during flowering stage and before evening time in order not to compromise the quality and quantity of honey.

The remarks were made by Rukungiri district entomology officer Lillian Kukunda Twine during a one-day bee keeper training that was held at Bikurungu town council headquarters.

Kukunda says that when bee keepers harvest honey during the rainy season, it gets mixed with moisture and water which compromises its quality and affects its market.

She further noted that when beekeepers spray their crops with insecticides in the morning time   bees are prevented from pollinating their crops and this reduces the quantity of honey at harvest time.

Participants thanked the production office for enlightening them about bee keeping and noted that the knowledge acquired  will help them in improving the quality and quantity of their honey.
