Rukungiri District FDC supporters, along with their counterparts from Kanungu District, have unequivocally disavowed the Najjanakumbi faction. Instead, they have urged Dr. Col Kiiza Besigye to spearhead the formation of a new political party under the Katonga faction, with him as its presidential contender in the 2026 elections.
This proclamation was made by Aloysius Mugarura and John Vian Sunday, the chairpersons of FDC in Kanungu and Rukungiri districts, respectively. Speaking to a gathering at Rukungiri main stadium during the FDC Katonga faction consultation meeting, they emphasized the need for a fresh approach to reclaim political ground.
Honorable Francis Mwijukye, the Buhwenju Member of Parliament and FDC Katonga faction’s General Treasurer echoed the sentiment, urging unity among FDC leaders in Rukungiri. He stressed the importance of cooperation, especially in reclaiming Rukungiri Municipality, which was lost to the NRM in the 2021 elections.
Dr. Col Kiiza Besigye, addressing the Rukungiri District FDC fraternity, urged them to prepare for the road ahead. He highlighted their betrayal by those he entrusted the party to twelve years ago but reassured them of his return to continue the struggle.
Besigye emphasized the necessity of teamwork to bring about change in Uganda, particularly in sectors like education, health, and welfare. He pointed out that their fight for these causes, which led them to the Bush, had been betrayed by President Museveni, and he called for a renewed effort, starting from Rukungiri.
