Hon Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, the Member of Parliament for Kinkiizi East and Minister of ICT and National Guidance, has called on religious leaders in Kanungu District to reject sectarianism and promote unity among communities.
Speaking at a gathering in Rugyeyo Sub County during the funeral of LC3 Chairperson Jameson Kanyonza, Baryomunsi expressed concern that divisions—especially those influenced by religious differences—are slowing down development in the district. He urged faith leaders to use their influence to bring people together rather than divide them.
The minister also noted that while other regions are making progress by electing leaders based on their development agenda, Kanungu still faces challenges where leadership choices are influenced by religious affiliations. He encouraged both religious and local leaders to foster unity and cooperation, pointing out that even biblical teachings support togetherness.
Baryomunsi further emphasized the importance of reconciliation and reaffirmed his commitment to supporting development initiatives in the district. He urged residents to set aside political differences and focus on projects that can improve their livelihoods and overall well-being.
