RUKUNGIRI-The Nyarushanje sub-county inspector of schools in Rukungiri district Miss Ida Gumisiriza has challenged educationists, especially in primary and secondary schools to avoid harassing learners and instead to embark on guiding and counseling them to enhance discipline.
She was on Tuesday speaking to parents, teachers, and pupils, who converged at Aunt Jolly Primary School in Bwanga parish Nyarushanje Sub County to celebrate the 2022 performance in the PLE exams.
Ida said that the law doesn’t allow teachers to severely punish learners, but to discipline them through, guidance, and counseling.
According to Erick Ndyanabo the school head teacher, 2022 became the first year for Aunt Jolly’s primary school to do 100% pass ever since it started in 1994. Erick attributed the good performance to cooperation between parents, teachers, pupils, and school authorities.
Among 40 candidates who sat for PLE, five got 5 aggregates and the rest got aggregates 6 and 7 respectively.
He however said that they have been going through challenges, especially skyrocketing prices of food and other school materials.
Godfrey Mashaija the school director asked former candidates who are now in secondary schools to read hard if they are to maintain their positions.
He also challenged teachers not to relax if they are to maintain the reputation of the school.
