In Rubirizi District, a 20-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of committing a murder. Marcial Tumusiime, the spokesperson for the Greater Bushenyi police, has identified the suspect as Kule Brian, a 20-year-old peasant living in Kafuro village, Kirugu Dub County, Rubirizi District.
Tumusiime has also identified the victim as Mugisha Pascal, known as Kabwisho, a 38-year-old bodaboda rider who resided in Rumuri 11 village, Rumuri Parish, Kicwamba sub-county in Rubirizi District.
It is alleged that on October 27, 2023, around 2:00 PM, Kule Brian was brought to Kyoshabire Nuriat’s home by his parents. He had his arms tied with ropes because he was believed to be suffering from mental health issues. Kyoshabire provided Kule with herbal medicine, which initially helped to calm his violent behavior. Kyoshabire then advised Kule’s parents not to untie him. However, on October 28, 2023, they decided to untie him.
At approximately 11:00 AM, Kule became violent again and started throwing stones at Kyoshabire’s main house. In response, Kyoshabire called for assistance from bodaboda riders, one of whom was the victim, Mugisha Pascal.
Tumusiime explained that when the deceased arrived at the scene with a machete (panga), Kule was in a highly agitated state. Kule ambushed Mugisha and struck him with a piece of a burnt brick, causing him to fall unconscious. Kule then used the same machete to inflict multiple injuries on Mugisha.
The victim’s body has been transported to Rugazi Health Centre IV for a postmortem examination, and investigations into the incident are ongoing.
