The Security Minister who doubles as the Rujumbura County Member of Parliament Hon Major General Jim Muhwezi has revealed that government is proposing laws that will regulate reckless consumption of alcohol.
He was on Sunday officiating at the closure of a 5 day youth conference at Nyakibale Parish, Kabale Diocese intended to boost the participation of male youths in church activities.
Hon. Muhwezi noted that government successfully promoted the rights of girls and women who are currently the back bone of development and pointed at the availability of cheap alcoholic drinks that are destroying the male youth which must be regulated.
He further explained that this law will also tackle gamblers, drug abusers, school dropouts among others.
The Rukungiri District Woman Member of Parliament Hon Natukunda Medius Kaharata revealed that in the past years, government has concentrated on the welfare of girl child but currently has turned on the boy child where she urged the male youths to embrace discipline and hard work.
The Rukungiri LCV chairperson Kyomukama Geoffrey applauded the development ushered in by Nyakibale Parish in the district and noted that the roles of male youths in the development of the district is fading out because they have focused on alcohol and betting.
The Deputy Resident District Commissioner Ahimbisibwe Wilberforce Ongom urged the youth who attended the conference to go and put into practice what they learnt from the conference and protect themselves from HIV/AIDS which is increasing among the in the district.
