The government has so far injected 8 billion shillings in all 75 parish development Saccos in Rukungiri district according to the responsible offices in charge of the parish development model Rukungiri district.

According to the documents seen by our reporter, 40 parish Development Modal Saccos have so far received 117 million in two financial years of 2021/2022 and 2022/2023 and 35 Saccos have received 100 million since the program started.

According to some of the parish development sacco members, they are always told that money was disbursed to their PDM SACCO account but it is unfortunate that many Sacco members haven’t accessed this money due to unknown reasons hence appealing to the government to speed up the process so that people access the funds to engage in commercial production.

According to Chris Kagayano the Bwambara sub-county chairperson, their sub-county has so far received over 558 million which was distributed to 5 parish development modal SaccoS across the sub-county.

He called up parish chiefs to be vigilant and continue to educate people in their respective parishes about the program so that it can be more productive.

Hon Naboth Namanya the Rubabo county legislator says the government rushed to start the program implementation before making proper guidelines.

Namanya added that all those who are beneficiaries of this program should have it in mind that this money is given out as a revolving fund paid within 3 years.

He thus appealed to beneficiaries to put the money to proper use by engaging in commercial enterprises such as coffee growing, piggery, and poultry keeping among several others to double their income.
