Kisoro district police are on the hunt for suspects following the death of 64-year-old Stephen Bigirimana, a resident of Chimbumba village, Rwingwe parish, Nyakabande sub-county. The victim was allegedly assaulted on October 7, 2024, while on his way to the garden carrying sticks to support his growing beans.
According to reports, Bigirimana encountered Henry Ntitubundi and his two sons, one identified as Kagabo, along the way. Ntitubundi reportedly accused Bigirimana of assaulting him in the past, a matter currently being handled in Kisoro court. In response, Kagabo allegedly struck Bigirimana on the ankle, causing him to fall. The three then proceeded to assault him before fleeing the scene after he raised an alarm.
Despite his injuries, Bigirimana managed to contact his friend Kamari, who informed the police. When the victim reached the Mutolere police post, officers advised him to seek medical attention due to the severity of his injuries. Unfortunately, Bigirimana passed away the following day, October 8, 2024.
Police visited the crime scene, documented evidence, and recorded statements from witnesses. The body has been taken to Kisoro hospital mortuary for a postmortem as investigations continue.
ASP Elly Maate, Kigezi region police spokesperson, confirmed the ongoing search for the suspects involved in the tragic incident.
