Authorities from Buyanja Sub-county, Rukungiri district led by the Assistant Health Inspector on Tuesday arrested 6 people for not having toilets at their homes.

The due who were arrested and later released on a condition to go and construct toilets in 2 weeks are 5 men and 1 woman from Rwenanura cell, Nyabiteete Parish, Buyanja Sub-county.

Nayebare Gilbert, the Assistant Health Inspector in Buyanja Sub-county revealed that they are determined to ensure that every family in the sub-county has a toilet, kitchen, outdoor bathrooms, drying rack, and rubbish pit.

Tugume Eliab, the chairperson of LC1 Rwenanura cell revealed that he was overwhelmed by poor hygiene and sanitation in the area which forced him to put operations to arrest those with no toilets.
The sub-county Councilor representing Nyabiteete Parish Karahukayo Charles noted that the campaign was in connection with the bylaws they made in Council to arrest, fine 20,000 anyone without a toilet in the sub-county, and follow them up until they put toilets up.

The Buyanja LC3 Chairperson Agaba Emmy Rubondo commended the Rwenanura Chairperson LC1 and the Assistant Health Inspector for responding accordingly and called on people to promote hygiene and sanitation in their homes.
