Police in Kanungu are investigating circumstances surrounding the death of 52 years Johnson Ntegyerize alias Kazungu a resident of Kameme village Kibimbiri parish Kihihi sub county Kanungu district, which happened between the 12th and 13th September 2023 at an unknown time during the day.
According to Elly Mate the Kigezi region police spokesperson, It’s alleged that between the 12th and 13th of September, 2023, one Anzirwe Anna an aunt to the deceased, after failing to get in touch with him, decided to inquire from other relatives of Kameme cell and Kambuuga to inquire whether the deceased had reached home, she was informed that he hadn’t.
A search was mounted by the residents in Matanda but in vain, till one Bizimungu informed the residents that the deceased was last seen with Baguma and Makyemakye who are suspected poachers.
One Makyemakye was arrested by the residents who led them to the scene in Queen Elizabeth National Park.
At the scene, the deceased’s gumboots, a panga with suspected rusty blood, a torn trouser, a yellow/pink shirt, skeleton remains of leg bones, and a decomposing skull were recovered, suspected to be his.
Police were informed by David Ntegyerize, the scene of the crime in Queen Elizabeth National Park was visited, exhibits were recovered at the scene, a Postmortem was done at Matanda Health Center and four suspects were arrested to assist in investigations.
