Police in Mitooma District are investigating the circumstances surrounding the tragic death of a five-year-old boy who was hit by a speeding car.
The accident occurred on October 3, 2024, at 7:15 am along the Katenga-Ishaka-Mitooma road, near Happy Angels Primary School.
Marcial Tumusiime, the Greater Bushenyi Police spokesperson, confirmed the incident, which involved a motor vehicle with registration number UBR 209R, a white Toyota Premio (new model), driven by Kansiimwe, a resident of Mitooma Town.
Tumusiime identified the deceased as Ahumuza Stuart, a five-year-old pupil of Happy Angels Primary School and a resident of Katenga Town, Katenga Sub-county, Mitooma District.
According to reports, the boy was attempting to cross the road when he was struck by the vehicle’s side mirror, causing him to fall by the roadside. He was rushed to Doctor Ben’s Clinic but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police have attributed the accident to reckless driving on the part of the driver. Tumusiime stated that the body has been taken to Mitooma Health Center IV mortuary for postmortem, and further investigations are ongoing.
