The Rukungiri district Vice Chairperson Nahwera Santurina has called on local leaders to embark on reminding Locals that tuberculosis and leprosy still exist and kill.
She made the call yesterday in her remarks at the closure of a one-day workshop organized by TB Partnership Uganda at Heritage Hotel in Southern Division, Rukungiri Municipality where she represented the District Chairperson.

The Workshop was attended by the Chairpersons LC5, RDCs, District Health Officers, Security agencies, Religious Leaders, Health Workers, and TB/ Leprosy survivors from the six districts of Kigezi region to assess the progress of the intervention, deliberating on how to prevent challenges and improving on awareness while implementing their Vision to end TB before 2030.

Nahwera Santurina noted that local leaders did a big role in sensitizing the public about HIV/AIDS and called them to apply similar efforts in fighting against TB/ Leprosy.

Kato Sulaiman from the Ministry of Health under the Department of Health Promotion challenged health workers to aim higher toward the success of ending TB before 2030 regardless of meager funding.

The Kigezi Region TB and Leprosy Focal person Tushabe Teddy asked the public to always attend TB/ Leprosy screening after realizing abnormal body changes.
John Bosco Bugaiga from Kakindo Bugangari and Sarapio Benywanira from Kabwooma Nyakagyeme both TB and Leprosy survivors revealed that the diseases are deadly diseases and expensive to cure.

The Rukungiri District TB/Leprosy Focal person Dr. Musinguzi Conerius revealed that between January and March, they screened 522 people, 46 tested positive and 4 died.
