Kanungu police have registered a case of suicide by hanging involving a 41-year-old individual named Abel Tugumizemu, who was a resident of Nyabihoko cell in Nyamigoyi parish, Kanyantorogo sub-county, Kanungu district.
According to the information available, on the evening of October 21, 2023, around 06:00pm, the deceased visited the home of the local area chairperson, Benson Rwabihogo. He expressed concerns about feeling pursued by unidentified individuals.
Given the late hour, the chairperson offered him a room to spend the night, with the intention of addressing his concerns the following morning. Tragically, the next morning, Abel Tugumizemu was discovered hanging in the same room.
Following the discovery, the police were notified, and they promptly arrived at the scene. The body was removed from the hanging rope, and a postmortem examination was conducted on-site by Dr. Yosamu from Kanyantorogo Health Center III. Subsequently, the body was released to the deceased’s family for burial.
An ongoing investigation is underway to determine the circumstances leading to the hanging.
