Police in Bushenyi are investigating circumstances under which a 21-year-old man was beaten to death by the mob.
Marcial Tumusiime the greater Bushenyi police spokesparson identified the deceased as Justus Asingwire 21, a peasant and a resident of Kibare village, Kibare Ward Nyakabirizi Division, Bushenyi Ishaka Municipality, Bushenyi District.
It is alleged that in the night between 12th and 13th September 2023 at around midnight, the deceased commonly known as Richard went to a bar of Oliver Natumanya with a friend and started knocking on the door and the owner made an alarm thinking they were thugs.
This forced the residents to come out and run after them and in the process, they arrested Asingwire but the colleague ran away. The community ganged on him and beat him seriously to a coma suspecting that he was a thief.
Later the bar owner tried to take the deceased to the hospital but he had already died.
Tumusiime said the bar owner was arrested to help in inquiries and the body was taken to Kampala International University Teaching Hospital for postmortem.
