Police in Katwe Kabatoro Division are investigating the suspected suicide of a 20-year-old man, identified as Mumbere Derrick, a resident of Kikorongo Trading Centre.
The tragic incident occurred on Sunday evening at around 5:00 PM when Derrick was found hanging from a tree with a piece of cloth tied around his neck. According to ASP Michael Lodia, the Officer in Charge at Kikorongo Police Station, the deceased was discovered by community members who alerted authorities.
The body has been transferred to Kasese Municipal Council Health Centre III for postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
Speaking to the press, SP Nelson Tumushime, the Rwenzori East Police spokesperson, expressed concern over the rising trend of suicides among young people in the region, particularly those aged between 20 and 28.
The Police called for collective efforts to create more awareness around mental health challenges and emphasized the need for open conversations and accessible support systems.
