Two bodies were last evening retrieved from Rushaya River in Bwambara Sub County, Rukungiri District after the river burst its banks sweeping away homes and gardens.

Rushaya River burst its banks following heavy downpour on Saturday that started around 9 am.
According to the Bwambara LC3 chairperson Christopher Kagayano, 2 bodies and one resident is still missing.

He identified the deceased as Kyabasasaki Bonekonsira 72 years and Ngabirano Edson Munyarwanda , both residents of Muyanje cell, Bwambara parish who was distilling local liquor in Rushaya Valley whereas Kabare Francis 75 years who is still missing was looking after his cattle in Nyakatembe A cell Kikarara.

Kagayano attributed the disaster to wetland encroachment by farmers and called on the government to rescue them, noting that they forecast an increased volume of floods in their area.

The Councilor representing Bwambara Parish Ngabirano Justus said the flooding was beyond their imagination and cautioned people to avoid crossing rivers during the rainy season.
