The territorial police in Kisoro District have arrested a 19-year-old woman in connection with the death of a 20-year-old man following a violent assault on Saturday night.

The suspect, identified as Irankunda Racheal, a peasant and resident of Kagera Village, Kagezi Parish in Kanaba Sub-county, is alleged to have been involved in the fatal beating of Julius Sebigori, a casual laborer from Rubange Cell, South Ward, Chahafi Town Council.

According to reports, the incident occurred on April 6, 2025, at around 10:30 PM at Mukuranka Trading Centre. Witnesses say Sebigori was being pursued by three unidentified men when he was seen by Ngabire Bosco, who operates a bar in the area. Fearing further disruption to his business, Bosco reportedly closed his bar as the situation escalated outside.

The three assailants allegedly continued to beat Sebigori near Bosco’s premises before fleeing, leaving the victim unresponsive.

Police were alerted and promptly responded to the scene. The area was secured, and investigators processed the crime scene, documenting evidence and recording statements from witnesses. A piece of timber suspected to have bloodstains was recovered as an exhibit.

Sebigori’s body was transported to Kisoro Hospital for a postmortem examination.

Authorities confirmed the arrest of Irankunda Racheal, who is currently in custody assisting with investigations. Efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend the other suspects involved in the incident.

Police have launched a full investigation into the matter.
