Police in Sheema District are investigating a serious road accident that left seventeen people injured this morning along Rukanga Road in Kabwohe Town, Sheema Municipality.
The accident occurred at around 9:00 AM and involved a white Mitsubishi Canter pickup truck, registration number UBB 873G, which was reportedly traveling from Masheruka to Kabwohe. According to eyewitnesses, the vehicle was carrying several passengers believed to be en route to Sheema Magistrate’s Court to testify in an ongoing case.
Greater Bushenyi Police spokesperson Marcial Tumusiime confirmed the incident and attributed the cause to reckless driving. “Preliminary investigations indicate that the driver, who is currently unknown and remains at large, was speeding and failed to negotiate a corner along Rukanga Road. The vehicle overturned, leaving multiple occupants injured,” Tumusiime stated.
All victims were immediately rushed to Kabwohe Health Centre IV for medical attention. By press time, their identities had not yet been confirmed.
Police have launched a full investigation and are appealing to the public for any information that could help identify the driver and clarify the circumstances surrounding the accident.
