166 individuals from the opposition and independent groups in Bugangari Sub County, Rukungiri District, have today, Friday 16th August 2024, joined the National Resistance Movement (NRM).
In an event presided over by Hon. Minister Jim Muhwezi Katugugu, the Security Minister and Member of Parliament for Rujumbura County, the new members attributed their shift to a lack of focus by their former parties and the vision of the NRM.
Hon. Minister Jim Muhwezi urged NRM supporters to avoid politics that divide them, emphasizing that elections should promote democracy, not hatred.
Hon. Midius Natukunda Kaharata, the Rukungiri Woman Member of Parliament, praised the government for prioritizing women’s emancipation, which has allowed women to compete with men in development.
Juston Byamukama, the Chairperson LC3 Bugangari Sub County, acknowledged the government’s remarkable service delivery and reminded Hon. Minister Jim Muhwezi about his commitment to providing solar energy at Bugangari Health Center IV. He also expressed concern over the neglect of roads maintained by the Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) and the embezzlement of water expansion materials by Nexus Company, the contractors for the Bagahwe Trading Center gravity water connection.
Jonnes Byaruhanga Kibura, the representative of the new NRM members, assured that their return to the NRM was a personal decision influenced by the government’s achievements, including the Parish Development Model, the Skilling Program, and the allocation of Industrial Parks and herbs for employment opportunities.
Edward Musimenta, a Boda Boda rider in Rwanyanja Parish, attributed his shift to a loss of hope in the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC).
However, Charles Arinaitwe Kamaani, the Bugangari Sub County Councilor representing Kashayo Parish and a prominent NRM mobilizer, expressed disappointment with the NRM government and President Museveni for losing his properties during the elections and promised to seek compensation.
