A tragic road accident occurred on August 15, 2024, in Kabale township near Voice of Kigezi FM station, resulting in the death of one person and serious injuries to another.
The accident involved a motorcycle, ridden by 32-year-old Spencer Nuwebyona, a resident of Kasinde village, Kekuubo, Kabale district. The collision also involved a pedestrian, 52-year-old Kyomuhendo Kellen, a peasant from Nyamitooma village, Kaharo Sub-County, Kabale district. Kyomuhendo was pronounced dead on arrival at Kabale Regional Referral Hospital, while Nuwebyona sustained serious injuries.
According to reports from the hospital, a good Samaritan transported both victims to the medical facility. Following the incident, relatives of the deceased attempted to remove the body from the hospital without a postmortem examination. However, police intervened to explain the importance of the postmortem and to ensure proper procedures were followed.
The police visited the scene of the accident on August 16, 2024, and discovered that the motorcycle involved in the incident is still at large. A postmortem examination has been completed, and the body has been returned to the relatives for burial.
Inquiries are ongoing to determine the cause of the accident.
