The territorial police in Kisoro District are investigating circumstances surrounding the death of a 47-year-old man, identified as Hategeka Eugene, a resident of Kisoro Main Village, Central Division, who is reported to have died after an alleged assault.
According to preliminary findings, the incident is said to have occurred on April 26, 2026, at around 3:00 a.m. at Club Hills in Kisoro Municipality, where the deceased allegedly got involved in a misunderstanding inside the bar.
It is further alleged that he was assaulted by an individual identified as Bahati and others during the confrontation. The bar manager, Niringiyimana Milla, reportedly intervened and rescued him before he was rushed to Mutolere Hospital. He was later referred to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on April 29, 2026, in the morning.
Police say coordination between Kisoro and Mbarara CID units led to a postmortem examination being conducted at Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital.
ASP Maate Elly, the PRO for Kigezi Region, confirmed the incident, stating that investigations are ongoing.
“Upon completion of inquiries, all suspects connected to this incident will be apprehended and prosecuted accordingly,” ASP Maate Elly said.
Police have indicated that inquiries are still at hand as efforts continue to identify and arrest all those involved.
