A 15 Nominee committee has been constituted by the North Kigezi diocesan synod as the election of the 6th Bishop of the diocese takes shape
The nomination committee which will be led by the diocesan chancellor Counsel Benon Agaba Maguru was constituted in the 20th synod session held at the Diocesan headquarters, St Emmanuel cathedral Kinyasaano.
The special sitting was convened to among other things Adopt the recently approved diocesan constitution, and governance manual
The synod also elected the Diocesan head of laity, and head of clergy where Abel Matita was elected head of laity replacing Canon Sabiiti Mahiirane.
He contested with Canon Benon Kwikiriza Baabo who got 45 votes against 47 votes for Abel. Rev. Polycarp Katwesigye of Kyamakanda was elected head of clergy after trouncing Rev. Geoffrey Mutabazi and Rev. Benson Akankwatsa.
Rev.Katwesigye got 22 Votes while the rest of the contenders got 20 votes each
The newly constituted nominations committee will comprise of Rev Benson Akakwasa of Kitazigurukwa church of Uganda, Rev Dickens Baguma of Nyakeina church of Uganda, the very Rev Erick Beingana Mugyezi who is dean Emmanuel cathedral Kinyasano, Rev jolly Tumwesigye, and Ven Polycarp Katwesigye the head of clergy and who is also the Archdeacon of Kyamakanda Archdeaconry.
Men will be represented by Canon Benon Kwikyiriza Baabo, Mr. Mugisha John Nyindombi, Canon Boaz Mategyero.
Women will be represented by Hon. Winnie Babihunga, Jolly Masheija and Canon Jolly Babirukamu .
The youth will be represented by Edson Matsiko, Leah Akankunda and Joab Tumwikyirize.
There one of the selected clergy representatives on the nomination committee however expressed interest in the position of Bishop and the synod will later be guided on replacing him.
By 23 Nov 2022, the diocesan nomination committee should have sent the names of nominated candidates to the province for the house of bishops, to choose the new bishop.
By 1st Dec 2022, the house of bishops should have verified the candidates and elected the bishop, so that the diocese prepares to consecrate the new bishop on 28 Feb 2023
