122 pilgrims from the North Kigezi Diocese in Rukungiri on Thursday arrived at the Uganda Martyrs Protestant Shrine in Namugongo ahead of the Martyrs Day celebrations on June 3rd.
The group, led by Jackson Ahimbisibwe, began their journey on May 17th, taking 14 days to reach the site. They started with 115 members and were joined by others along the way, bringing the total to 122. Ahimbisibwe reported that all pilgrims arrived in good health and spirits, aided by support from well-wishers and the prayers of the North Kigezi Diocesan Bishop and Missioner Edson Ampeire.
Pilgrims Pauson Byaruhanga, Mpumwire Betty, Evelyn Baryakabo, and 16-year-old Miracle Akatwijuika expressed their gratitude for the safe journey. They used the pilgrimage as a time for prayer, seeking healing, renewal, and deliverance, and thanked everyone who supported and prayed for them.
The North Kigezi pilgrims were welcomed by North Kigezi Diocese Missioner Rev. Edson Ampeire, Canon Jolly Babirukamu, clergy, and other Christians from the North Kigezi Kampala chapter.
Many other groups from Rukungiri and Kanungu districts, including Christ the King Parish Rukungiri, Nyakibale Parish, and Makiro Parish from Kanungu district, have also arrived at Namugongo.
