Leaders of the opposition party FDC in Rukungiri district on Thursday launched the Power 10 system in Nyakagyeme sub-county and Rwerere town council, despite police attempts to disperse them.

The Power 10 system was introduced to form groups of 10 people each, aiming to enhance coordination, communication, and unity among party members.

Currently, the Rukungiri district FDC leadership is conducting consultative meetings with party members to discuss strategies for strengthening the party, reforming the Power 10 groups, and preparing for the 2026 elections.

Speaking to party members in Rwerere town council, former Rujumbura legislator Hon. Fred Turyamuhweza attributed Uganda’s economic challenges to large sums of money being spent on unnecessary things, leading to a lack of medicine in health facilities, poorly maintained schools, and frequently increasing taxes. He urged all Ugandans to unite in fighting for their freedom.

Additionally, Turyamuhweza cautioned members against accepting gifts and freebies from the ruling party, NRM, arguing that these are intended to weaken their loyalty to the FDC.

At both meetings, the Power 10 system was launched in preparation for the 2026 elections. Aloysius Mugarura, the Rukungiri district FDC chairperson, emphasized the system’s importance in mobilizing for the party and called on members to remain steadfast until they achieve success.

Former Rukungiri district woman MP Bamukwatsa Betty Muzanira encouraged party members to focus not only on winning at the lower levels but also on collectively opposing the NRM leadership in Uganda.
