A total of 110 refugees from Nyakabande transit camp in Kisoro district yesterday crossed back to their places of origin in Democratic republic of Congo.
Haji Shafiq Ssekandi Sengooba, the Resident District Commissioner Kisoro told our reporter that the refugees crossed back to their places of origin to cultivate, harvest, bring food and check on their homes, parents and relatives.
Sengooba said that no fighting between the M23 rebels and FADRC was reported yesterday in Democratic Republic of Congo.
He also said that a total of 270 refugees were received at Nyakabande Transit Center and that out of these, 119 were new arrivals while another 151 were once manually registered at the holding center, moved back to their Country of Origin and returned to the holding center.
He added that currently, the total population at the holding area and Transit center is 10,848 individuals among which1,002 at the transit center and 9,846 at the holding center.
He also confided to our reporter that the cumulative number of refugees manually registered from 28th March 2022 is 43,428 individuals of 22,447 Households.
He further said that 92 COVID-19 tests were conducted and all tested negative and that the cumulative number of tests for the new arrivals and positive cases since the 28thof March 2022 are 33,772 and 652 respectively and that there were 05 active cases in Isolation at the end of the day.
