LWEZA: Church of Uganda, in partnership with the Oryun Community Church in South Korea, has established the Daniel Missional Leadership Centre in Lweza, Wakiso District with a sole purpose of transforming young leaders to take charge of the future.
The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, The Most Rev Dr. Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu and Rev. Dr. Eun Ho Kim, the Senior Pastor of Oryun Church in South Korea officially commissioned the center today as part of Church of Uganda’s efforts to raise kingdom missional leaders for the next generation.
“Daniel Missional Leadership Centre is the strategy through which Church of Uganda in partnership with Oryun Community Church in South Korea is raising kingdom missional leaders for the next generation. Here, young leaders are trained and shaped to usher God’s kingdom into their homes, Churches, universities, workplaces and the rest of the world.” Archbishop Kaziimba said.
He added, “The inauguration of this leadership centre is testimony that Church of Uganda shall no longer be celebrated only for her sitting capacity but her sending capacity. We envision many young people being equipped for the works of ministry and be sent out to light the world.”
He commended Archbishop Emeritus Henry Luke Orombi for linking Church of Uganda with Oryun Community Church through Pastor Song, a Missionary in Nebbi Diocese prayer mountain who constantly prays for the new generation to know God and be released.
Eun Ho Kim, the Senior Pastor at Oryun Community Church lauded Church of Uganda for initiating this vision and pledged total support to ensure that the long term vision is fulfilled.
The Provincial Secretary of Church of Uganda, Rev Canon William Ongeng said that the newly established missional leadership centre will foster discipleship and support Church of Uganda’s Strategic plan.
“Our strategic plan (Vision 2025) is very clear that if we are to become a faster growing sustainable Christ centred Church, we must concentrate on disciple making.Given that the youth and children constitute the highest number of Ugandans, it was imperative that the Provincial Strategic Plan focuses on their discipleship. This leadership centre will help us achieve this.” Canon Ongeng said.
Rev Yohan Bae, the Daniel Uganda Project Country Director said the project visionaries are optimistic that the church will make youth and childrens ministry a priority and equip young people as disciples and ministers of Jesus Chist
”We are called to raise missionaries among the children and youth. Can children be missionaries? Yes! We want to see them take the gospel to their homes, schools and playmates in the village.” Rev. Bae said.
He added, “We are called to train youth pastors and youth leaders to become missionary leaders, who intentionally raise youth to stir up their congregation for mission.”
Rev. Bae noted that they are mandated to train pre – University and University leaders in discipleship and commission them as missionaries to universities and the marketplace.
“We believe that some of these shall be sent by Church of Uganda Dioceses and local Churches to be missionaries in other parts of the country, Africa and the whole world.” Rev. Bae said.
Over 40 youth leaders from different Dioceses in Church of Uganda are already undergoing a weeklong training at the same facility.
In attendance at the official opening was Bishop Hannington Mutebi of the Diocese of Kampala; The Very Rev Canon Dr Rebecca Nyegenye, Provost of All Saints Cathedral Kampala; over 60 guests from Oryun Community Church, Mrs Grace Murengezi the Provincial Mothers’ Union President, Provincial Secretariat Staff among others.
