A tragic case of domestic violence has claimed the life of a woman in Mayengo Cell, Kiniogo Ward, Katuna Town Council, Kabale District.
According to police, the incident occurred at around 10:00 AM when a domestic dispute turned violent. The suspect, identified as Mugabe Andrew, reportedly picked a quarrel with his wife, Mukandayisenga Donatele alias Shantari, a Rwandan national. In the heat of the argument, Mugabe allegedly struck her on the head with a metallic bar, leaving her unconscious.
The victim was immediately rushed to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Kiberu Junior, a 19-year-old student at St. Barnabas SS and a resident of the area, reported the incident to police.
Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson ASP Elly Maate confirmed that a case of murder was registered at Katuna Police Station. The scene was visited and documented by the Acting District CID Officer and team, and key witness statements were obtained. The suspect was arrested and is currently in custody as investigations continue.
Police say inquiries are ongoing to ensure justice is served.
