Police in Buhweju District have arrested a 42-year-old woman, Nshemereirwe Shallon, in connection with the alleged murder of her husband, Beinomugisha Patrick, following a reported domestic dispute.

According to Tumusiime Masho, the Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) for the Greater Bushenyi region, the incident occurred in Kaniga Cell, Kyayera Parish, Rwengwe Sub-county, at an undisclosed date.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the couple got into a violent altercation around 9:00 PM, during which Nshemereirwe allegedly struck her husband on the head with a hoe (locally known as ekihosho), killing him instantly. She reportedly buried the body inside their house, wrapping it in bedsheets and concealing it in a pit she dug in the bedroom.

Nshemereirwe later confessed to the crime, citing a history of prolonged domestic violence in the marriage as the motive behind her actions. By press time, the body had not yet been exhumed for a postmortem examination.

Local leaders, including Mr. Mukama Frank, the Rwengwe sub-county chairperson and head of the sub-county security committee, condemned the act and urged the public to always report cases of domestic violence to local authorities or the police before they escalate to tragic outcomes.

The police have launched a full investigation into the matter as they await the exhumation and postmortem results to guide further legal procedures.
