The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) is set to undertake a street-cleaning initiative in Kisoro municipality as part of the activities commemorating the 43rd anniversary of Tarehe Sita on Monday.

The central business district of Kisoro municipality has been grappling with substantial piles of improperly disposed garbage, primarily attributed to widespread street vending along major roads. In addition to the streets, the UPDF officials will extend their cleaning efforts to Kisoro Hospital.

Hajji Badru Ssebyala, the Resident District Commissioner of Kisoro, explained that the decision to clean the town’s streets is in line with the activities planned for the army week. He emphasized the UPDF’s dedication to safeguarding and maintaining the common security of Ugandans, acknowledging the ongoing support and positive relationship with citizens.

Tarehe Sita, meaning the ‘sixth day of the month’ in Kiswahili, marks the audacious attack on Kabamba barracks by the National Resistance Army (NRA) rebels in Mubende district on February 6, 1981.

The 43rd Tarehe Sita Anniversary will be held in Buyende District within the Busoga Sub-region under the theme “Celebrating people’s struggle for unity, security, and peace for socio-economic transformation.”
