Kabale Regional Referral Hospital in Southwestern Uganda, located in Kabale District, is currently facing a challenging situation with six unidentified and decomposing bodies.
The hospital, which serves the six districts comprising Kigezi Sub-region, has been holding these bodies since November 2023, as revealed by one of the mortuary attendants speaking anonymously to our reporter today.
Among the deceased individuals is 21-year-old James Tuyizere, a Rwandan national, who tragically passed away last month while traveling aboard a Horizon-bound bus with registration number UAM 218H. This bus was traveling from Kampala to Kisoro district.
This situation has caused fear among residents and the local business community due to the strong smell emanating from the decomposing bodies. Hospital Administrator Dr. Nelson Obote declined to comment, redirecting our reporter to Kabale Municipality Town Clerk, Justine Barekye.
Kabale Resident District Commissioner Godfrey Nyakahuma has urged municipal authorities to work together with the hospital promptly to ensure the bodies are buried before the end of Tuesday.
