Mr. Morrison Rwakakamba, the Chairman of the Uganda Investment Authority, delivered an inspiring message to authorities at St. Gerald’s Secondary School, urging them to prioritize the teaching of Sciences and Technology for the benefit of students’ future competence.

This message was conveyed on Friday, December 29, 2023, during a reunion of Old Students at the school premises in the Southern Division of Rukungiri Municipality. Mr. Rwakakamba, an alumnus of the school, was unable to attend in person but had his message delivered by Paul Trichiceng, the Chairperson of St. Gerald’s Old Students Association (SGOSA).

Emphasizing the importance of technology in the country, Mr. Rwakakamba, in his capacity as the Chairman of the Uganda Investment Authority, encouraged students to embrace Sciences and Technology to position themselves effectively in the future job market.

The School Chaplain and Chairperson of the Management Board, Rev Father Baritazari Ndyomugabe, who led the mass during the reunion, disclosed that the school had faced challenges but had overcome them. He expressed optimism about the school’s future, aiming to enroll 2000 students and urged parents to choose St. Gerald’s for quality education.

Barigye Richard, also known as Kagame, the former head teacher who retired during the school’s glory days in the 1990s, commended the success of his former students. He urged current authorities to focus on restoring the prominence of Sciences, Discipline, and football, elements that made St. Gerald’s Secondary School famous nationwide.

Paul Trichiceng, the Chairperson of St. Gerald’s SS Nyakibale Old Students, expressed gratitude for the contributions made by Old Students and called for collaborative efforts with the school authorities for charitable support to revive the school’s glory. During the reunion, he handed over 13 computers to the authorities, with 7 of them donated by Old Students in the diaspora, 2 by Maanige Wenceslas, 2 by Paul Trichiceng himself, and a pledge of 5 more computers during the event to enrich the school’s computer room.

Maanige Wenceslas, the Chairperson of the on-ground students in the Western chapter, applauded the pioneers for establishing a solid foundation for St. Gerald’s Secondary School. He called for unity among Old Students, emphasizing the need to complement government efforts. Additionally, he disclosed plans to initiate a football league in the coming year to enhance public relations with the school, urging Old Students to assist in recruitment efforts.

Pioneers, including Rev Engineer Murumba Mathias and retired educationist Neema Jane, shared the school’s background, highlighting past challenges due to a lack of scholastic materials. They appealed to current students to take advantage of the available materials and the support of Old Students to excel in their studies.
