In partnership with the World Bank, the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) has donated 10,000-liter water tanks to several primary schools and a sub-county neighboring Queen Elizabeth National Park. The recipients include Kyakatarangyi Primary School, Kyenyabutongo Nursery and Primary School, Nyanga Sub-County, and Ishasha Primary School.
Twinomugisha Deusdedit, the Warden of Community Conservation for the Queen Elizabeth protected area, confirmed that UWA, with funding from the World Bank, provided the tanks to enhance water access for local schools and communities. While inspecting the installation sites, Deusdedit assured residents that the tanks and their accessories would be delivered within a few days.
Kihihi Sub-County LC3 Chairperson Natukinda Nelson praised UWA’s efforts to support communities affected by the park’s proximity. He highlighted that recent fencing activities have successfully reduced threats from large wildlife; however, he noted minor disturbances from smaller animals like bushbucks, wild pigs, antelopes, baboons, Uganda kobs, and monkeys that remain in the surrounding areas.
