The Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) manager for Kihihi Branch, Madam Suzan Namugga, has issued a strong warning to residents in Bugangari and Bikurungu over the growing cases of vandalism targeting electricity infrastructure.

According to Madam Suzan, vandalism remains a serious challenge to delivering quality and reliable electricity, especially to essential sectors such as health, education, and manufacturing.

She noted that Bugangari and Bikurungu are among the areas with high incidents of power infrastructure vandalism, especially in Burama and Nyakasharara, which is disrupting electricity supply both locally and nationally.

She added that records indicate that thugs are targeting critical components, including aluminum and copper wires, as well as electric transmission infrastructure made of steel.

The stolen items are often sold to scrap dealers, smelters, energy sector service providers sourcing materials locally, traders of electrical supplies, and welding workshops that use transformer oil for their operations.

She said that as UEDCL, they are conducting investigations and once these thugs are arrested, they will be taken to court.

She asked residents to keep a keen eye on anyone who tampers with electricity equipment in their area because such acts compromise the stability, reliability, and continuity of power supply across Rukungiri and Uganda.
