Two Rukungiri municipal councilors have been suspended from municipal council meetings for sabotaging the implementation of council resolutions through the media.
The accused were suspended by Tumusiime Constance the speaker of Rukungiri municipal council during the council meeting that took place today at the municipal council hall.They are Kijukuru Vianey representing Kitimba ward and Rubarondesa Innocent councilor for Kinyasano ward.
The session started normally at around 9:00 am and as it proceeded, the speaker called for house attention to councilors Kijukuru Vianey and Rubarondesa Innocent whom she accused of going on radio stations around Rukungiri municipality making defamatory statements against the Rukungiri Municipal mayor Charles Makulu.
Kijukuru Vianey was suspended for one council and committee sitting whereas Rubarondesa Innocent was suspended for two council and committee sittings with effect from 20th October 2023.
Innocent Rubarondesa one of the suspended councilors said that the suspension given to him is null and void noting that it was not following the law.
Innocent said that it’s unfortunate to find that the municipal council speaker is being used by Mayor Charles Makulu to fight councilors who failed to eat from a dirty plate with him.
He noted that they have been suspended because they talked about how the mayor is misusing his office by awarding himself all council tenders like one of Gabbage collection which is against the local government act.
Kijukuru Vianey the councilor of Kitimba ward also expressed his disappointment in the speaker whom he said is being controlled by the Mayor to pass his fake deals which has slowed down development in Rukungiri municipality.
Vianey said that the speaker has several times done resolutions in favour of the mayor because all they do is for their benefit stressing that once one is not in line with them, they give no chance to settle issues before one is out of the council.
He has sworn not to succumb to pressure because he was elected to serve the people of Kitimba ward not helping the mayor achieve his dirty deals.
