Two Ntungamo District councilors on Monday died in a fatal accident along the Mbarara – Kabale highway 4km from Ntungamo municipality.

Niwagaba Pius Tusimire, the Local Council V councilor for Nyarutuuntu sub-county independent NRM leaning and member of finance committee together with Kutamba Monic Rutabingwa lady LCV councilor for Ngoma sub-county and secretary for works, died on Monday at 4 pm when a Toyota wish registration number UBH 873G they were traveling in rammed into a box body motor vehicle registration number UBD 660V of Nile Agro industries which was coming from Rubaare to Mbarara.

According to eyewitnesses, the driver of Toyota Wish who was from Mbarara was at high speed during the rain, and when he saw the box body motor vehicle coming hastily, tried to brake the vehicle which turned back in the middle of the road causing the vehicle to lose control and swerved into the lane of oncoming traffic killing both councilors on spot.

The team from Uganda police Ntungamo rushed to the scene and took the bodies of the deceased to Itojo Hospital for post-mortem.

Speaking to the Ntungamo District chairman Samuel Mucunguzi Rwakigoba noted that they were traumatized and shocked because the two comrades were transparent and served their people diligently since 18 May 2021.

Naboth Mpiriirwe councilor for the Ntungamo sub-county described it as a double tragedy in the district council to lose two councilors saying that were vital in the discussions.

The district speaker Twikiriize Nicholas Mugyenyi said that there will be a special council meeting on Wednesday to pay tribute to both councilors.

The Education and Health Committee chairman who is also a councilor for Ruhaama Sub County Ahabwe Bernard Mupenda, noted that it was shocking because this is beyond human understanding.

By press time, the police were still compiling the report.
